CITY OF SAN FERNANDO -- The year 2007 will see more action in the political scene as candidates for the barangay elections scamper to put their ranks into shape in preparation for the October polls.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is urging the public to register for the coming barangay elections on October 29. There will also be an election for the Youth Council.

New voters are encouraged to register in municipal election offices and are advised to bring legal documents like passports and identification cards for verification. The registration will be on July 15 to 22 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Comelec is expecting a 10-percent increase in the turnout of new voters this year, according to Yoy Yalung, Comelec election assistant.

"Election Officers have been discussing the procedures and measures to be taken in the conduct of the registration. As of now we are ready for the registration and we are only waiting for the forms from the national office," Yalung said
