Health office holds training for LGU officers

MABALACAT -- A training arm of the Department of Health (DOH) regional office is monitoring and instructing health officers providing them the needed skills to address current problems in the local government in terms of health services and management.

The DOH Collaborating Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CCDPC), a partnership with three of its agencies -- regional epidemiology, laboratory and resource center -- was established in 2001.

This young training arm aims to “provide the information, technology, skills and expertise in management of public health care services.” The program started late last August but the agency is still welcoming would-be participants.

The CCDPC is implementing an applied 10 months modular training course which is field-based and action oriented.

According to Inee David, course coordinator, the training would cost at least P15,000 per head. However, she assured that program is worth the amount since it would surely yield tangible benefits on the part of the local government’s health care programs.

“This program is divided into three main courses, after each course we are monitoring the actions taken by the participants a certain prescription period before we proceed with the next course. It is not the typical seminar were there is a person that would talk and that’s it, ours is more result oriented,” David said.

The three main courses of the program are organizational, public health program and human resource management.

“Our participants are usually physicians from district hospitals and rural health officers, we give them pointers on medical procurement, quality management and answering problems related to health care programs,” David said, adding that they are expecting more government units to send in their health officers to the program.
