PORAC -- About P700,000 worth of assorted medicines were distributed here in accordance with President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo's "Botika sa Barangay" project.

The Department of Health (DOH) regional office said medicines were distributed to 28 barangays in Porac and Floridablanca towns.

Pampanga Provincial Board Member Edna David, chairperson of the committee on health, said the Botika sa Barangay project will cater to the basic medical needs of the community, particularly in the province's second district, the hometown of the President.

David also hailed the efforts of Health Regional Director Juvencio Ordonia for his "unselfish efforts for the improvement of health care programs in the province."

"This health initiative undertaken by President Arroyo will undoubtedly rebound to the benefit of our constituents, particularly those coming from remote areas and the poorest sector of our society," David said, adding that the project will also spread to neighboring districts and the whole province in the coming months.

Medicines have also been distributed to the Porac District Hospital, Escolastica District Hospital as well as in the towns of Porac, Lubao, Macabebe, Masantol, San Simon, Apalit and Sto. Tomas.
