Sunio has been involved in consumer rights advocacies for almost two decades. He became part of CAP2 in 2001 and advocated for consumer rights, along with Catalina Saplala, Luz Pring and others.
Sunio, a businessman and farmer by profession, hails from Barangay Cangatba. He became president of CAP2 recently. He ran for district director in 2004 but was disqualified.
The district director elections are held every three years wherein the seven electrical town districts (Sta. Rita, Lubao, Guagua, Bacolor, Mabalacat, Porac and Samuan) of the cooperative designate their new district directors based on popular votes. The district director is responsible for various consumer issues. The district director of each town sits as members of the board of directors of the cooperative.
CAP2 chairperson Catalina Saplala hailed the victory of Sunio as the victory of consumers of the cooperative. "Sunio is very capable, knowledgeable, and pro-member consumer. Consumers should be happy that we have now a pro-consumer director," Saplala told Sun. Star Pampanga.
"We are glad that a poor but committed member of CAP2 will sit with the BOD to fight for the improvement of the cooperative. We will be accompanying him with our prayers," Saplala added.
Sunio is the third director to be elected this month. Others include Antero Flores (Samuan) and Roberto Salalila (Sta. Rita). Four remaining electric districts are yet to elect their directors. The elections in Bacolor will be on November 24, Mabalacat on December 1, Lubao on December 8, and Guagua on December 16.
Elected district directors are set assume office in January next year.
