Execs, consumers tackle problems in power coop

GUAGUA -- Through the mediation of National Electrification Administration (NEA) Deputy Director Pablo Pan, the consumers alliance party (CAP) and administration of the Pampanga Electric Cooperative (Pelco) 2 met on Saturday to discuss the pressing problems in the cooperative.
The Pelco2 administration headed by board president Gilbert Reyes and general manager Sulpicio Lagarde met with CAP chairperson Catalina Saplala and president Jhon Sunio at the recent oath-taking ceremonies of the multi-sectoral councils of the cooperative.

Discussed during the meeting were the convening of the Annual General Membership Assembly (Agma), the highest governing body of the cooperative; overstaffing and plans for cleaning the ranks and procedures of the coop; “communication gap” between consumers and the cooperative; and election for the new set of directors for November and December.
Four directors and members of the board ended their terms last month. The board of directors has recently passed a resolution asking the NEA to defer the election to March of next year.
Pan said the request of the board was not approved and he had directed the board to hold the elections from November to December.
“The resolution passed by the board of directors of Pelco2 will not hold water. Their reasons have not met the requisites to grant them extension of term,” he said.
The dialogue has resolved the problem with the election that was officially set in November and December. Agma will also address the concerns of various consumers in January 2008.
The cooperative presented to CAP the plans to reorganize the present administration of the coop.
“Give us enough time to do all our plans, we will deal with the problems within the coop,” Lagarde said.
He also cited the move of the coop to clear its ranks of erring employees and address the problems in manpower and over staffing.
Pan had arranged a time table along with Lagarde to accomplish all the concerns agreed upon in the dialogue.
